Your Brain on Music: The Sound System Between Your Ears
The amazing sound system in the human brain helps explain why people everywhere fill their lives with music.
Here’s the rehearsal schedule for the day of the concert (Thursday 14th December). Please make a note of when you are needed and make sure you have your instrument/music in school with you on that day. The rehearsals will take place in the hall.
Your teachers will know why you are absent from lessons that day, but it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and catch up.
Usual lunch rehearsals will take place up until the concert.
Here are some things you need to know about the concert itself:
The concert is at 6.30pm in the Hall. It will be finished by 9pm.
You need to wear all black. Not blue, not brown, not patterned, and no big logos. If you want to wear a bit of tinsel etc. on yourself or on your instrument, go for it.
Tickets are £5 on the door for adults or pay via ParentPay. Under 18s and senior citizens are free.
The music classrooms will be available for coats, instrument cases etc. Please arrive in enough time to warm up and get organised.
When the concert is in progress, you must not hang out in the classrooms or corridors. You need to be in the Hall being a supportive, considerate, appreciative member of the audience who shows awareness of performance etiquette which includes not moving around or making a noise during the music.
Any questions, please ask.
All music clubs will start up again after the Christmas holiday.
Good luck to our students who have their Trotman auditions this week.

Jesus Christ Superstar – The Musical, Churchill Theatre, Bromley, Thursday 29th February, 2024
We have the opportunity to take the students in our music clubs to see the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s brilliant production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley. This reimagined production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The musical is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar. Find out more here

Musical Theatre fans– SIX is coming to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley in July2024
The crowning glory of Broadway, the West End and beyond, the international smash hit musical SIX makes its royal return to Bromley, following its previous sell-out success!
Winner of 26 major international awards including the Tony Award for ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Costume Design’, double winner of the Whatsonstage Award for ‘Best West End Show’ and a Gold-Disk winning album, this sell-out Tudor take-off has ‘an incredibly strong and powerful message’ (The Australian) and is ‘pure entertainment’ (New York Times).
From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.
In Eras: The Beatles, Martin Freeman tells the story of how the most famous band on Earth shaped music today. Told in the band’s own words with an extensive archive.
Brass and percussion players only: Please spend time at home practising your part for the Fanfare for the Common Man ready for the next time we rehearse it.
Here’s comedian Bill Bailey reimagining the Doctor Who theme as Belgian jazz back in 2021:

You will be emailed in the week of MusicFest with a draft programme
You do NOT need to wear school uniform – you can wear whatever you like as long as it’s suitable for a performance at school.
Be in the audience being a lovely supportive audience member for other performers
At the end, take a bow and SMILE to acknowledge your applause
If you are a Music Leader…
Please speak to Miss Werry to find out when you need to arrive and what you will need to do.
We need people to be on the door and run the refreshments
If you would like to volunteer to be on the Tech Team…
Please speak to Mr Brett to find out more.
During MusicFest itself you need to be proactive at the front of the hall as well as at the back, helping people with mics and mic stands – whatever each performer needs
If you are coming to be in the audience…
Remember good audience etiquette, and be aware that you need to respond in different ways to different types of music – you may be clapping or joining in if a performer invites you to, but for some pieces (especially classical ones, or very soft ones) you might need to be completely silent and completely still.
No moving about during items

Have you ever heard of water percussion?
Have you ever heard water percussion? 💧 Earlier this year, our percussion section made a splash in Tan Dun’s Buddha Passion. The composer is known for using water as an instrument, and these excerpts show how magical it can sound ✨ pic.twitter.com/6yLZ8ntgqW
